The Furnace Inn and Milton Pond
The pond is one of a series created in the valley to provide water for the ironworks which gave the pub its name. The ironworks were sited across the road to the right.

The Furnace Inn
The name of the pub is a clue to the former use of this area, which was the site of the Milton Ironworks. The ironworks closed in 1884.

This was the site of the former Milton Ironworks, which operated from around 1840 until 1884.

Lidgett Incline bridge
By the time of the building of the Midland Railway Chapeltown Branch Extension, the old tramroad incline had been converted to standard gauge, and a fairly substantial bridge was required. The tramroad only occupied the left hand span, the right hand carrying an access track.
