Railway Bridge on the Trans-Pennine Trail
An example of how history can affect geography: a disused railway crosses a defunct and filled-in Dearne and Dove Canal; in the background non-native conifers have been planted to reclaim a former spoil-heap.

A parting of the ways
Here the Trans Pennine Trail splits into two: west to Worsbrough; and North to Barnsley and Wakefield. Pleased to see that the sign is in better condition than many others in the area.

Repurposed bridge on the Trans Pennine Trail
Once carried the trans-Pennine railway through Worsbrough over the Dearne & Dove Canal. Now takes the Trans Pennine Trail [and the Dove Valley Trail] over scrubland.

Dearne & Dove Canal passing under the Worsbrough railway line
The canal fell our of use in the 1930s and was formally closed in 1961. The railway is now a path, part of the Trans Pennine Trail. The topside of the bridge is shown in Image
