Clearly quite an old building but I have been unable to unearth any details of it. The stone lintel of the doorway carries raised lettering displaying "THE SHEFFIELD TELEGRAPH." and "RED RAILWAY GUIDE."

Cooper Gallery
Art Gallery run by Barnsley Council Museums.
The building dates from 1769 when it housed the Barnsley Grammar School. The building was purchased by Samuel Joseph Cooper when the school relocated, and he bequeathed it to the people of Barnsley along with his art collection, The gallery opened to the public in 1914.
