Belle Vue Road, Mexborough
This is the town's one remaining cobbled street. Mexborough is built on the north bank of the River Don and the steep slope of this and nearby streets is the result. The houses visible are typical of terraced properties in the area and date from the 1890s to the early 1920s.

Mexborough No. 1 Junction, 2002
View westward from Mexborough station, intended to show the absence of Industry and Railway complexity in the 'Post-Industrial' 21st century. Mexborough station is now only a stop on the Sheffield - Doncaster route, which is the double-line, running onto the former ex-Midland Leeds - Sheffield (Midland) main line at Swinton (Midland). The single line branching off to the left connects with the now-abandoned ex-GC main line from the former Sheffield (Victoria). Fifty and more years ago, when these railways were immensely more complicated and conveyed enormous tonnages of coal, steel and other products of industry - as well as passengers, this point was on the GCR (LNER 1923-47) main lines from Manchester via Woodhead and Penistone (also Barnsley) to Doncaster, Scunthorpe, Grimsby and Cleethorpes: also just to the west of here traffic from York off the Swinton & Knottingley Line joined to go to Sheffield (Victoria) and the South. Just to the east of Mexborough station was a large locomotive depot, which provided motive-power for the immense freight traffic to and from the great Wath Marshalling Yard, about a mile west of this point.
