Kelvin Apartments and Langsett Cycles, Infirmary Road, Sheffield
Most Sheffielders (of a certain age) know about the infamous apartment
blocks, which - literally connected - together were known as Kelvin Flats …
… and that, following demolition in 1993, they don't exist anymore
Far fewer Sheffielders will know about the Kelvin Apartments building …
which preceded the Flats and are still going strong … and even have a
modern extension on the right.
Langsett Cycles is also a well known business … especially to Cyclists!

View from the College
This photograph was taken in the Spring of 1998 from the top floor of Parkwood College, part of the Sheffield College. Until 1988 the College was known as Shirecliffe College. The College closed in the summer of 1998. The Hillfoot gas installation can be seen in the foreground. In the distance Sheffield University Arts Tower and the Royal Hallamshire Hospital can both be clearly seen. The College site is now a development of 3/4 bedroom houses. This image has been scanned from the original photograph.
