Course of the former Dearne Valley Railway
The Dearne Valley Railway was a relatively late arrival in the South Yorkshire coalfield though at a time when mining was moving further east. The railway was nominally independent but in its early years was operated by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway. The complete line was opened by 1909 initially with freight services only. A limited passenger service started in 1912 but lasted only until 1951. With the closure of the collieries it served the line eventually had no useful purpose. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dearne_Valley_Railway

Dearne Advanced Learning Centre
The former Dearne High School moved to this new building in January 2011. 'Aspiration, Ambition and Achievement’ are its watchwords: 'punctuality' is not, if the large number of pupils ambling towards the school at 10.00 am is anything to go by.
