Old stone house on Newhill Road, Wath
Undoubtedly there was some connection between this house and the Payne Family who once owned an imposing hall on the adjacent parkland. Carved above the door of this house is the likely date of its construction - 1690 and the initials - EJA.

The Payne Mausoleum, Newhill Park, Wath
The mausoleum was built in 1834 for John Payne who was a local landowner. He was a politically inclined liberal and a supporter of the American Colonists. The Mausoleum is in Newhill Park which was once the grounds of Payne's home, Newhill Hall (now demolished).
