This Grade II-listed Georgian property is the oldest building in the area and one of the first houses in Sheffield constructed wholly of stone. It was constructed in 1711 for Thomas Steade (1672-1739). The Steades, who also built Hillsborough House 250 metres to the west of it, were local landowners. Burrowlee remained a private dwelling until the 1920s although at some point it was divided into two. Eventually the house was purchased by the Council and used as offices and a clinic. In the 1960s it was and boarded up and might well have been demolished except for the fact that Sheffield City Council decided to renovate it. In the early 1980s the Education Committee used it a Community Education Centre until it was leased to Burrowlee Crafts and Designs for the manufacture of wooden furniture in 1987. In 2005 “Blenheim Park Developments” achieved planning permission to convert the house into apartments and, almost simultaneously, six new houses were built in the same style as the main house forming a complex currently known as Burrowlee Park Square. The terraced houses are situated in Broughton Road.

This house (Number 2) now 'sides' onto Penistone Road ... originally its next door neighbour was The Victoria pub which was demolished when Penistone Road was made into a dual carriageway in 1986.

This shop, and its predecessor, has been supplying superb sandwiches and snacks to 'Sheffielders' for years, especially those from the Cadbury Trebor Bassett factory just across the road.

Burrowlee House is a Georgian Building built in the early 1700's by Thomas Steade. He married the local Lord of the Manor's daughter and they lived together in this house, the oldest in Hillsborough. They eventually moved on and up to Hillsborough Hall not far away. The building was eventually bought by Sheffield City Council who used it for various purposes including as offices by the Sheffield Education Department. This church was founded in the early 1860s as “a Preaching Room and Sunday School” in the Wesleyan Reform Union tradition when Owlerton was still a village, i.e. about a mile from Sheffield.

Burrowlee House is a Georgian style building. It is the oldest building in the Owlerton and Hillsborough area and was one of the first houses constructed wholly from brick in Sheffield. The house is a grade two listed building with two storeys and five bays with a stone balustrade over the three middle bays, there is a date stone over the main door. A cottage existed on the site in the 16th century and is recorded in the deeds from that period but the Burrowlee House we see today was constructed in 1711 by Thomas Steade (1672–1739).
