School Sign, Main Street, Wentworth, near Rotherham
The narrow footpaths in the village mean this sign has to be squeezed in alongside the wall ... but still serves its purpose.

George and Dragon 85 Main Street Wentworth
Grade II Listed as 'The George and Dragon and No 83 (Court Cottage)' a public house and dwelling from the mid 17th century with 19th century alterations, possibly during conversion from a manor house to a public house. Buildings in the front wing are described as 'not of special interest'. An 1879 directory lists Francis Johnston, Butcher and vict. George and Dragon and it appears to have been licensed since 1804. The pubs facebook page says that it dates back to the 16th century and is one of the oldest buildings in Wentworth. The George's claim to fame is being the birthplace of the Boiled Onions Climbing Club, which completed a lot of routes in Wales, The Peak District and on Skye back in the 1990s but probably more interestingly the lunch venue for Jamie Oliver and his crew when filming Jamie's Kitchen in Rotherham. The building is reputedly haunted by a woman dressed in Victorian dress. Rotherham CAMRA voted it Pub of the Year Winner in 2001 and 2004. Directory entries include; 1822 only Rockingham Arms listed; 1833 William Pepper; 1849-1862 Joseph Johnson (& butcher); 1879 Francis Johnston (& butcher); 1901-1911 John Smith Rimes.
