Keppel's Column, a Wentworth folly
Koppel's Column used to be open to the public, but is now considered potentially unsafe, its girth encircled by a steel mesh truss.

Keppel's column from Scholes Lane
At 115 feet, Keppel's Column is the tallest of the Wentworth follies; it was originally planned to be even taller and capped with a statue of Admiral Keppel, but evidently the Marquis of Rockingham ran short of funds! Notes from http://www.wentworthvillage.net/keppelscolumn.shtml

Keppel's Column - completed 1782
Keppel's Column was begun in 1778 by Charles, second Marquis of Rockingham. It was finished after the death of the Marquis in 1782 by his nephew and heir, the first Earl Fitzwilliam. It was built to celebrate the acquittal of Admiral Keppel, a friend and Whig supporter of Rockingham, who had been court-martialled for cowardice against the French in the Battle of Ushant, 1778.
