Lots of departments are within the Huntsman Building ... Main Reception, Burns Unit, Endoscopy, Fracture Clinic, High Dependency Unit, Medical Assessment, Orthopaedics ... and most importantly the A&E Department. The building is named after Benjamin Huntsman who developed Crucible Steel in Sheffield.

The building is named after Sir Robert Hadfield, is six storeys high and contains a full-height atrium, allowing natural light to enter the wards. The 'right wing' of the original hospital buildings was demolished in the early 1990's to make room for the building of the fantastic Chesterman Cardiothoracic Unit ... this is named after James Chesterman of 'Spring Steel Tape Measure' fame. The Clock Tower ... and Clock ... is just about visible from all parts of the current Hospital Site ... certainly, in its original guise as the Sheffield Union Workhouse the clock would have been visible from all parts, including the nearby Hospital Farm, and would have been used for 'time keeping' such as Meal Times, Lights Out, Doors Locked and so on.
