The 'right wing' of the original hospital buildings was demolished in the early 1990's to make room for the building of the fantastic Chesterman Cardiothoracic Unit ... this is named after James Chesterman of 'Spring Steel Tape Measure' fame. View of the Clock Tower from the West, Northern General Hospital, Sheffield
The Clock Tower ... and Clock ... is just about visible from all parts of the current Hospital Site ... certainly, in its original guise as the Sheffield Union Workhouse the clock would have been visible from all parts, including the nearby Hospital Farm, and would have been used for 'time keeping' such as Meal Times, Lights Out, Doors Locked and so on.
