One of the three houses in Ault Hucknall
Ault Hucknall is often thought of as the smallest village in England. Locals insist that it is a village and not a hamlet because it boasts a church as well as its three houses.

Ault Hucknall, Nr Glapwell, Derbyshire
Apart from this former farm worker's cottage, Home Farm's farmhouse and one modern house, there are no other houses in this hamlet. This is a view along Ault Hucknall Road towards Glapwell (5-10 mins away by car). The top of the church tower is just visible.

Ault Hucknall, Nr Glapwell, Derbyshire
Rose Cottage, on the west side of the Parish Church, is a former farm-worker's cottage. Records held in Hardwick Hall show that Home Farm, 30 metres to the east of the adjacent church, had become Hardwick Hall's home farm by the early-mid C19th.

St. John the Baptist Church
St. John the Baptist Church in Ault Hucknall, is one of just a handful of buildings in this location. To the east there is a house and a farm on Image and to the west a second house adjacent to the entry to a public Image to Hardwick Park. The church is approximately a 1000 years. Inside there is a monument to Anne Keighley, the wife of the first Earl of Devonshire. There is also a slab commemorating the philosopher Thomas Hobbes, who died at Hardwick Hall in 1679.
