These shops were closed and shuttered on the Sunday that I took this picture ... perhaps, since the former Pye Bank School, opposite, closed in 2003, they are closed permanently. Update ... a few weeks later I went back during the week, and ... they were still closed! Shame as I was fancying a Mars Bar or a Peppermint Aero or, as I was close to Pye Bank School, perhaps a Pie would have been more appropriate. Update ... see

Pye Bank School (former), Andover Street, Woodside, Sheffield - 1
One of the original Sheffield Board Schools, designed by architects Innocent and Brown. The school opened in 1875 and closed in 2003, when a new school was opened nearby on (also) Andover Street. The original school building is a Grade II listed building and is securely 'locked up' awaiting conversion into (probably) apartments. There are some superb views from the front of the building of Sheffield City Centre. I believe that the school was closed for a period during WW2, following a bomb explosion nearby which broke most of the windows and caused some minor damage. During this closure the pupils were sent to other schools in the vicinity. For additional views see ...
