Former 'Coal Drop' Bunker, Hoyland Road, Neepsend, Sheffield - 2
Still not sure what the 'new' red brick walls are for but the owners obviously want to keep people out! The 'black brick' wall is a retaining wall. See also ...

The low wall in the distance is from the original Hillfoot School, whose main buildings are now sadly long gone ... See ...

Update in 2012 ... The original use for this structure was as a 'Coal Drop' served by the nearby rail line. Follow the above link for more info.

Former 'Coal Drop' Bunker, Hoyland Road, Neepsend, Sheffield - 1
Another view of my 'mystery' walls ... and the Modern Industrial Unit on top of the banking can also be seen. See also ...

Update in 2012 ... This structure has been identified as a former 'Coal Drop' structure, served by the nearby railway. Between the 'black brick' pillars there were 'wooden planked' walls, behind which coal was deposited from coal wagons on a siding from the railway, on a level with the top of the structure. Lower down there were 'chutes' which could be opened, through which the coal would be gravity deposited into waiting lorries. The lower parts of the 'red brick' walls are original but have later been raised to give a secure storage area, complete with barbed wire.
A 1967 picture from virtually the same position can be seen on the Picture Sheffield website.

'Boys' School Gates, Sandbed Road, Neepsend, Sheffield
The school - Hillfoot School - has long gone but the 'Boys' gates are still there ... there is no sign of the 'Girls' or 'Infants' gates, they were probably on Waterford Road. The building behind the gates is a modern Industrial Unit of which there are many in the area.
Update in 2012
I have been contacted by Roy Priest who was a pupil at this school circa 1953 - known then as Hillfoot County School - and remembers climbing these gates, when the school was closed for the night, to retrieve the 'gang football' ... he also confirms that there was a double gate, for Girls and Infants, on Waterford Road. The big grey 'School Meal Van' also used these gates when delivering each day. There were separate Boys, Girls and Infants doors into the School Building. The senior pupils were taught in a post-war prefab annex at the top end of the yard.
In 1955 the school yard, being very large, was used for rehearsals for the Queen's visit to Sheffield Wednesday's ground. He and other small children were put in rows and bent forward to reveal the words 'Welcome to Sheffield.' Thanks Roy

Paddy Kenny keeps goal at Neepsend, Sheffield
As these Graffiti Goals are close to Hillsborough - home to Sheffield Wednesday FC - then I suspect the local lads would be Owls Fans ... therefore the Graffiti Goalkeeper would be Sheffield United's Goalie, namely Paddy Kenny. I have no idea whether this is anatomically correct or not!
