Old Milestone by the A628, Manchester Road, Penistone parish
Carved stone post by the A628, in parish of Penistone (Barnsley District), Manchester Road, North of right angled bend at Fullshaw Cross Roads, 150m North of junction with Hartcliff Road, on banking 20m North of gate, 40m North of bend sign, on East side of road. Erected by the Doncaster & Salter's Brook turnpike trust in the 18th century. Inscription reads:- Barnsley 10 Miles Manchester 26 Miles Grade II listed. Cross in a wall at Fullshaw Farm, Langsett
There is a similar arched niche, but without a cross, a little way to the west. The locality is called Fullshaw Cross, but that probably refers to the crossroads (however there might once have been a cross at the crossroads!).

The old Manchester Road
Before the route from Cheshire to Penistone was diverted sharply to the north and now forms part of the Penistone Boundary Walk.

View from Hartcliff Hill
View west from the edge of the summit area. There are excellent views around 270 degrees from southeast to west to northeast. The A628 Woodhead pass road can be seen climbing away into the distance.
