The road to the north Woodhead Tunnel, Dunford Bridge
The north tunnel was twin bore, the first constructed in 1845 and second one added in 1852. The northern of these two tunnels now carries high-voltage electricity cables, and the two-foot gauge railway carries men and materials into it.
