This is an ancient crossing point. Originally called the “Wortley Leppings”, the old wooden bridge has long been replaced. When the river is low, “The Leppings” are passable with care. It is also possible to see the paved surface of the ford.

This ford on the River Don is found beside the ancient stepping stones known as Wortley Leppings. The ford has an impressive stone set base which suggests that it may have been an important crossing point at one time.
