Footpath by the River Don, near Middlewood Tavern, Oughtibridge
Close to Rocher Bridge, is a break in the wall, giving access to a footpath which runs alongside the River Don towards Middlewood, Winn Gardens and Hillsborough. Image Image Image Image Update in April 2014 I have been contacted by Roy Koerner, who lived in the Middlewood area 'in his youth' … who tells me that Rocher Bridge is in fact a footbridge over the nearby railway line, approximately half a mile to the North East … and indeed this is verified if you enlarge the OS map. Roy recalls his father referring to the bridge pictured as 'Killiecrankie Bridge' but assumes this was just a local name as he can't find any reference to this on any maps.

Road Repairs near Middlewood Tavern, Oughtibridge
This 'close up' shows how close Middlewood Tavern was to the part of the A6102 that was washed away during heavy rain in June 2007. It took 18 months for the repairs to be finished ... during that time the road was completely closed to traffic. Just visible in the picture is one of the Buses which link Stocksbridge, Deepcar and Oughtibridge to the Sheffield Tram network at Middlewood. During the road closure these Buses and all traffic was diverted.
