A6187 leaving Castleton
But not for very far. In less than 400 metres, the A road ceases. Two minor lanes continue westwards, one of them up Winnats Pass, in the background. Here, detached houses line the north side of the road, the Buxton Road.

Buxton Road, Castleton
This is the western end of the village. Since 2000 this road has been designated A6187 but it was formerly the A625, part of a through route across the Peak District until the section over Mam Tor was closed in 1979 following repeated landslips.
