The Porter Brook, nearly dry
Despite significant rainfall the previous day and snow on the moors, there was still little flow in the river after a very dry winter at its downstream end just above the confluence with the River Sheaf. For a detailed account of this urban river, see Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porter_Brook - a search on Geograph will bring up several images of it by other contributors.

Scotia Works, Suffolk Road, Sheffield
Mid C19th former cutlery works following the usual formula of polite brick offices to the street with cart entrance to workshops arranged around a courtyard. These would probably have been occupied by individual self-employed craftsmen who rented space and were known as 'little mesters', a term unique to Sheffield. Continuing the tradition up to a point, now small office units, geared towards "charities, social enterprises and voluntary and campaign groups".

Sheffield's Cultural Industries Quarter
Sheffield's Cultural Industries Quarter as seen from Granville Street. Sheffield has twice the national average percentage of people employed in the creative arts and media. The white building, a former garage is home to Red Tape Studios. This view also gives some indication of the level of building work taking place in the city centre in 2008.
