Park Grange Road and Spring Lane Tram Stop
Spring lane is actually the road ahead in the distance, climbing up to the tower block on the left. Supertram No. 17 (now numbered 117) is at the stop, which when photographed was the temporary terminus on this line. Park Grange Road winds its way through large areas of social housing. In 1994 the area looked pretty run down. Maybe it has improved since then. The tram was routed this way to help with regeneration. Image

Sheffield Supertram No. 17 at Spring Lane tram stop
The stop is actually in Park Grange Road, very near its junction with City Road. Spring Lane is the road in the background, heading up to the multi-storey block of flats. These trams are probably the most powerful in the UK at present. All the axles are powered so that they can cope with the steep hills on the route, some of which have a gradient of 10%. This tram is now numbered 117 and in the latest Stagecoach livery. Another view:- Image

Sheffield Supertram No. 17 at Spring Lane tram stop
The tramway was opened as far as this stop on the 22nd August 1994. It was several months before the whole of this line was open. Since Stagecoach took over the system, this tram has been renumbered 117. It has also had two more different liveries since this photograph was taken in 1994.
