Eckington - United Methodist Free Church
On High Street. A more distant view is available at Image The following additional information has been provided by Andrew Tatlow (http://www.geograph.org.uk/profile/5589). This is no longer a Methodist Chapel. Known to Andrew Tatlow as Trinity but he is not sure where that name came from! Trinity closed 15 to 20 years ago and operations were moved to another chapel at the top end of the village on Chesterfield Road. Probably closed 1994 because in the National Archives 2006 Accessions includes an entry "United Methodist Free Chapel, Eckington: records incl minutes and baptism registers 1921-1994 (NR)"

Eckington Dental Centre
This is taken from Gosber Street. Market Street is to the right and High Street straight on. The county library used to be in the building with a white bay window on the left. There has been a dentist on the corner opposite since the 1950's when Mr Sedgewick opened a practice in what I think were new premises at the time. The pavement was barely wide enough for one person to pass another. All now replaced by the new buildings in the picture. Dentistry services were also to be found until the late 1950's at the other end of Market St where the tools of the trade were pliers and an enamel bucket. See "I said the Sparrow" by local author Paul West!
