Beighton Level Crossing
An East Midlands Trains empty stock 'Meridian' passes Beighton level crossing bound for Sheffield on the last weekend of the three month diversion to avoid the upgrade of Bradway tunnel on the normal route. Passenger trains will again become a rare sight at this location.

Site of Beighton Station
View northward, towards Sheffield (Victoria); ex-GCR Sheffield (Victoria) - Nottingham (Victoria) - Leicester (Central) - London, etc. Main line. Beighton Station had closed on 1/11/54, and this 'London Extension' from Sheffield lost its main line status in 1960, Woodhouse Junction - Annesley being closed on 4/3/63 and southward from Annesley mainly from 5/9/66.

The train is passing Holbrook Colliery Sidings and approaching Beighton Station: it is a Class F (apparently empties). The locomotive is ex-War Department 2-8-0 No. 90002, one of the 733 taken over by BR after the War.

Beighton: typical freight train on ex-GCR main line, 1951
View NW, towards Sheffield etc. and Doncaster. The Up class F freight is headed by a typical Class 04 2-8-0 No. 63889 (built 9/19 as ROD No. 2135, acquired 5/27 as LNER No. 6638, renumbered 3889 in 1946, becoming 63889 and surviving until 4/60). This seems a typical scene in the complex of railways, coalmines and industry characterising the North Midlands in much of the 20th century.
