View NW, towards Sheffield etc. and Doncaster. The Up class F freight is headed by a typical Class 04 2-8-0 No. 63889 (built 9/19 as ROD No. 2135, acquired 5/27 as LNER No. 6638, renumbered 3889 in 1946, becoming 63889 and surviving until 4/60). This seems a typical scene in the complex of railways, coalmines and industry characterising the North Midlands in much of the 20th century.
