Tesco top-up
Formerly a garage with filling station this site is now a Tesco Express. Deliveries queue up to restock the very popular shop. It's not surprising that the neighbouring Spar shop closed after a brief struggle against the competition - and local residents lost their newspaper delivery service. Tesco has gone from strength to strength. Double yellow lines don't deter trucks, even in the morning rush hour!

Brinkburn Drive
This picture was taken looking north along Brinkburn drive. The house in view seems typical of this area.

Tesco Express, Abbeydale Road South
On this day most roads were all but impassable for anything but 4x4s. Tesco quickly sold out of bread, milk, and all those things they normally sell in small quantities - empty shelves everywhere! This site used to be a BP petrol station, and before that a full service garage with Mobil pumps. Now it's busier than ever, despite a massive Tesco being only 2 miles down the road.

Remains of ancient stone goit, possibly for Bradway Mill
The area much altered when the Dore and Chinley Railway was completed in the 1880s, the remaining pond then ornamental for Brinkburn Lodge. Now built over.

LMS Jubilee Class 5699 Galatea repainted as 45627 Sierra Leone
Peaks Express from Preston to Derby. Coming round the tight turn off the Midland Mainline and through Dore Tunnel to the Hope Valley line the locomotive found it hard to get grip on the damp track and rising gradient towards Totley Tunnel. Maybe an odd leaf on the line too. At this point it's barely going at walking pace.

Soil nailing by West View Lane
As part of preparations to add a third track at this point to form a longer chord between Dore South and Dore West Junctions. This will create a new loop to allow freight trains in particular to wait clear of both through lines before moving from the Hope Valley line, here, onto the Midland mainline.
