Sheffield: looking down on Angel Street
A similar view to
Image, this time we look slightly less directly downwards and the view centres on Angel Street as it heads north. In fact, from the tram, the street is Market Place, becoming Angel Street by the bus in the centre of the picture.
The Co-Op building, down the hill on the right, is

Sheffield: Watson?s Walk
Looking from
Image, at 9:45pm, through this walkway to Angel Street in the heart of the city.
A plaque in the walkway states:
"William Marsden (1796-1867) was born in a house close to this site in August 1796.
As a young man, he left Sheffield to study at St. Bartholomew's Hospital and was admitted as a member of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1827.
In 1828, he founded the country's first free hospital, which was based on the principle "that disease and poverty should be the only claims for admission."
In 1851, following the death of his wife from cancer, he opened a cancer hospital which is now known as the Royal Marsden."

Bankers Draft, Market Place, Sheffield
Very opulent Edwardian Baroque, with a cliff-like face of granite and stone, the latter decked out with Corinthian columns and quite heavy details. By Walter Brierley, 1904. Grade II listed.
This sort of grandeur was almost invariably for a bank, in this case the York City and County Bank. Now a Wetherspoon's pub.

Bears of Sheffield: #9 Super Bear
#9 of 61 big bear sculptures, this one was decorated by Rob Lowe and is located at the Castle Square tram stop.
The challenge for Rob was to paint straight lines on an uneven surface. The end result is somewhere between a painting and a Supermundane outfit that the Bear is wearing. He hopes it will bring a smile to those that see it out in the wilds of Sheffield.
