Sheffield General Cemetery
In 1834 the General Cemetery Company was formed to create a cemetery on nine acres of land in the Porter Valley. Opened in 1836, and used for burials until 1978 when half the site was demolished to make way for a green space.

Parker monument, General Cemetery, Sheffield
Based on the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates in Athens, a well-used Classical Greek source. Dated 1837. The listing says it is marble. Grade II listed.

Cemetery offices, Cemetery Road, Sheffield
More evidence of the Egyptian Revival style used in the General Cemetery, although the columns are Doric. By Samuel Worth, who laid out the cemetery, 1834-36. Grade II listed.
The offices are now used by the Sheffield General Cemetery Trust which manages the cemetery on behalf of its owners, Sheffield City Council.

The architectural highlight of the cemetery. A monumental pedimented Greek Doric portico, beyond which is an Egyptian Revival entrance. By Samuel Worth, who laid out the cemetery, 1834-36. Grade II* listed.

Non Conformist Chapel, Sheffield General Cemetery
Looking up the steps to the front of the former Non Conformist Chapel in Sheffield General Cemetery. The chapel has stood disused since the cemetery closed to burials in the 1970s. The chapel is grade II* listed and in 2013 The Sheffield General Cemetery Trust was awarded funding to restore the building.
