The Egyptian Gate
The original design of the Sheffield General Cemetery was in the Egyptian style, opened in 1836, when the British Empire has strong trading and military links with Egypt. It was the first Egyptian-style cemetery in Britain and this gateway is listed Grade II*.

Gateway, Cemetery Road, Sheffield
Entrance to the General Cemetery, in an Egyptian Revival style, which surfaces elsewhere in the cemetery. See the sloping verticals and winged sun, or behudet, above the opening. By Samuel Worth, who laid out the cemetery, 1834-36. Grade II* listed.

Cemetery offices, Cemetery Road, Sheffield
More evidence of the Egyptian Revival style used in the General Cemetery, although the columns are Doric. By Samuel Worth, who laid out the cemetery, 1834-36. Grade II listed. The offices are now used by the Sheffield General Cemetery Trust which manages the cemetery on behalf of its owners, Sheffield City Council.
