This was originally sited on Fargate in the city centre and moved to its current location in Endcliffe Park in 1905. Seen here the morning after a heavy snowfall as your geographer returned to his abandoned car!

Queen Victoria's Jubilee Obelisk (1887)
Flockton & Gibbs - Queen Victoria 'Jubilee Memorial', 1887. Endcliffe Park, visible from Rustlings Road. Originally at the top of Fargate, moved in 1905 to be replaced by the statue of Queen Victoria by Alfred Turner (now itself in Endcliffe Park and visible from Hunter's Bar roundabout). Description: Stone memorial, c. 10m high, surrounded by four cast iron gas lamps. It consists of obelisk of red polished granite set above a carved stone capitol above a block of grey polished granite. The obelisk is mounted on stone blocks set on a paved area on a patch of levelled ground overlooking the playing fields in the park.

Endcliffe Park, Sheffield 11
Endcliffe Park was opened in 1887 to commemorate the Jubilee of Queen Victoria and the memorial seen here marks this event. Rustlings Road, linking the suburb of Hunter's Bar (ahead) with Nether Green behind the photographer, lies on the other side of the boundary fence on the right.
