Hallam Tower Hotel, Manchester Road, Broomhill, Sheffield
This view is from the Top Road ... as I recall it, this was the main entrance but it all looks a bit narrow to me now! The building extension in the centre was the Main Reception area, the road to the right leads to a car park, the road to the left leads down to the bottom of the site and Fulwood Road. See also ... Hallam Tower Hotel - Demolition Begins - from Chesterwood Drive, Broomhill, Sheffield
The controversial Hallam Tower Hotel, opened in 1965. Despite its early success, it closed in 2004, and has been deteriorating since then whilst plans of all types were proposed and never concluded. Finally, in September 2017, demolition has begun, but, sadly and despite security and safety warnings, not before a 19 year old student, exploring the ruined hotel, fell to his death. I'm sure the residents of Chesterwood Drive will not miss this monstrous building ... but will be wary of what will finally replace it. The former Hallam Towers hotel
Once the jewel in South Yorkshire’s hospitality crown, the Hallam Tower Hotel has stood derelict since 2004, an abandoned modernist icon. Situated in City’s affluent western suburbs, the unmistakable form of the Hallam Tower has dominated the skyline since 1965. Once crowned by a dazzling neon sign, years of emptiness and neglect have rendered the abandoned hotel a decaying hulk, its once-elegant interior practically destroyed by vandals and water damage.
