Built in the 1950s and promoted to a dedicated Cancer Hospital in 1995 ... one of only three in the UK.
Part of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Sometimes mistakenly described as Western Park Hospital due to its proximity to a major road called Western Bank ... Weston Park is also close-by and this also suffers from the same name error.

The Art Sculpture shown is an untitled Stainless Steel work, by Bryan MacDonald.
Commissioned in 1972, by Dr King, a former Consultant at Weston Park Hospital.
The cost of £30,000 was funded by the J. G. Graves Charitable Trust.
The work is described as a Rectangular Steel relief, decorated with circular shapes.
A central square section consists of smaller broken forms which rotate very slowly both clockwise and anti-clockwise. These represent the division of cancer cells surrounded by larger healthy cells.
These moving pieces were switched off after complaints about noise, from patients and hospital staff. Efforts were made to quieten the moving parts by lubricating them, but this was unsuccessful. Lubricant leaking from the motors is thought to be responsible for the subsequent staining on the exterior wall under the Sculpture.
The large hospital name sign now covers most of the stained area.
