Standing on Beech Hill Road, this school was the first one I ever attended. My mother would drag me here and when her back was turned I'd run down the road after her.
Described as an infants school, I believe it was a nursery school during the war, when I attended. I have an old photograph taken there and none of the children are over four, in my opinion. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a303/escafeld01/Others/BroomhillNurserySchool.jpg

In the centre of the main structure of the building is this interesting coat-of-arms depicting weaponry. The lettering is DEI GRATIA SCIENTIA PRODERIT which may be translated "By the grace of God, knowledge will advance", apparently the motto of the original Sheffield School Board.

Update 2020: When Dave submitted this photo he asked for assistance in deciphering the rather effaced inscription. After 12 years, research by a number of Geograph moderators has at last enabled this to be done. It is believed to have been the motto of the Sheffield School Board.
