Shops in Chadwell Heath Lane
Taken from the end of Hall Road, where I was born and grew up in the 1940's and 50's. The shop on the corner of Reynolds Avenue was then a greengrocers called Wally's (he who ran it). The shop on the right was Beeston's (after the very old - as it seemed to me then - couple who ran it) It was a tobacconist, newsagent and sweetshop where I sourced my sweets, Beano, Dandy and Film Fun each week - and the occasional packet of 5 Player's Weights for my mum if she had her rollers in and couldn't go out!

Chadwell Heath: The Eva Hart public house
Eva Hart? She was a survivor of the Titanic disaster in 1912 and lived in nearby Japan Road. She became a magistrate and was awarded the MBE. She died in 1996. Quite what she would think of the conversion of Chadwell Heath's former Police Station (for this is what the building is) into a Wetherspoon's outlet named after herself can only be speculated on! The orange and peach coloured building is the Coopers Arms. However the two pubs are in different London Boroughs, the Eva Hart in Redbridge and the Coopers Arms in Barking and Dagenham.
