One of the former Bata shoe factory buildings
The factory and associated village were set up from 1932, using Czech architecture which seems to have been used world-wide for other Bata factories. A style novel for its day, here they are grade II listed buildings.

Former Bata factory, East Tilbury
These are two southernmost parts of the former factory complex. The block on the right appears to be in the process of redevelopment but its left-hand counterpart still has an air of dereliction (though it still carries the Bata logo). The factory finally closed in 2005.

Statue of Tom?? Baťa , 1876 - 1932
The man initiating the establishment from 1932 of the Bata shoe factory here, along with its housing estate and community buildings. The plinth has his anglicised name, Thomas Bata. Unveiled in 1955, this is the prototype of a standard statue for use at factory sites in the former Czechoslovakia.
