South Street
A busy scene in central Romford. Traffic on this road has reduced significantly as a result of pedestrianisation from Exchange Street on the opposite side of the railway. The British Railways sign-writing visible on the bridge advertises frequent electric train services and dates back to the electrification of the line from Liverpool Street in 1960.

Seen from the station bridge, six buses make their way through Romford including a 174 that has come from Dagenham and is heading for Harold Hill, a large former London County Council housing estate on the edge of the town.
