Gatwick airport - remains of shuttle to South Terminal Satellite
The South Terminal of Gatwick Airport has a circular "satellite" pier, clearly visible on the OS map. This was originally connected to the main terminal building by an elevated light rail "shuttle" comprising carriages on two parallel, curving tracks separated by a service walkway. The shuttle has subsequently been replaced by corridors and travelators but here the remains of the tracks can be seen, cut where they cross over an airport service road.

Gatwick Airport shuttle to south terminal satellite.
This ran from the South Terminal to its satellite, which was opened in 1983. The shuttle has now been replaced by walkways and travelators, although some of the track remains in place. Gatwick is Britain's second biggest airport and the locals are still campaigning against the building of a second runway. The airport has excellent transport connections - it has its own station on the London - Brighton line and it is by Junction 9A on the M23.
