Number 22 has the date 1722 above the door though the building is believed to be much older dating back to the 16th century. To the right of the cottages is the junction with Ockenden Lane before which is a 19th century water trough which occupied the site of the former village stocks.

Viewed from the junction with Ockenden Lane. The former A272 performs two dog legs as it travels through this part of the town believed to have been the result of infilling of the old medieval market place. The road has been the B2036 since the opening of the bypass in 1988.

Cuckfield High Street
Cuckfield is now by-passed so this bend is not as busy as it once was. In the days of coaching, this village was an important stopping place on the route from London to Brighton.
