Former Railway Mission
In Oakhill Road, almost opposite Image, this chapel is now used as offices. The Railway Mission is a non-sectarian Christian society formed in 1881 specifically for those working on the railways and associated industries http://www.railwaymission.org/. This chapel was built in 1896 and still had a congregation in 1981 http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.asp?compid=18357 which is now dispersed.

I had relatives living at no. 3, with the green door, and stayed with them at intervals from the age of 6 onwards, when for 6 months I attended the school in Clarence Road that was recently demolished.

Flour sack hoist
This hand-powered hoist was used to haul flour sacks up to the first floor store of Image The wooden lintel and the bricks above show the wear of decades of use. The window glass has been painted out black but in a careful manner so as to retain the appearance of normal windows.
