Former art college
I believe that this was the home of "Horsham art class" from 1918 to 1930 when it was renamed "Horsham Art School". In 1956 it became a branch of the West Sussex college of art and crafts. In 1986 it became part of the Northbrook College. In 2005 the college was closed and its function moved twenty miles away to Worthing as part of an 'ongoing review of cost effectiveness and course duplication'. What the bean-counters chose to overlook is that there was no 'course duplication' for the local students as the paucity of de-regulated rural public transport combined with extortionate fares made the non-duplicated courses inaccessible. Although I would have to concede that not providing an education in art to 60 students and selling the site to a property developer was pretty cost-effective.

Fire in Hurst Road
Image was sold in 2005 to property developers. Repeated applications to demolish this building of historic significance and replace it with flats were refused. On the night of Friday 18th July 2008 a fire severely damaged the first storey and roof. Fire investigation officers stated that the likely cause of the fire was arson and a police investigation will follow. This building is in the same grid square as Image which was probably a significant factor in it not being completely razed. No association between the developers and the fire should be inferred from the above comment.
