I had to stand close enough to the gate to make sure I was in the square. The bridleway leaves Merritt's Wood and crosses this field of winter wheat or barley towards Ellisfield.

Bridleway to Ellisfield
The bridleway follows the left hand side of the field boundary. There is also a byway crossing here; it is very rutted and muddy. The fields have an over wintering crop, probably winter wheat or winter barley, starting to grow.

Christmas trees at Ellisfield
The map correctly shows fir trees, but it is a surprise to see them surrounded by a high and very secure fence. This is because they are probably trees grown for the Christmas market.
