The Old Forge, Merchant's Place
There was a blacksmith's shop here for very many years, not sure when it closed but it was still going at least into the 1980s http://rfa.readingmuseum.org.uk/detail.asp?ID=53 .
In the building today there are a cafe, a body piercing studio and a hypnotherapy centre.
The entrance to Garrard Street Car Park is at the bottom of Merchant's Place, with Western Tower in the background.

The building has been refurbished and the only parts which are original are the recess and the date plaque above. Mind you the chimney looks old as well.
