A view from Waltham Road. 47318 thunders through with a freightliner service, probably bound for Southampton Docks via Reading and Basingstoke. The first three containers belong to Ben Ellerman lines, a long established shipping company. The station has been spruced up a bit since this photo was taken.

Twyford railway station
These are the fast lines, being used by a semi-fast London to Paddington to Oxford service operated by a First Great Western 3-car diesel class 165 unit. It is probably doing about 80 mph here, pathed to reach Reading and cross to the slow lines before the next wave of high speed trains doing 125 mph come through. Trains do not normally stop on the fast lines, although both platforms are equipped for them to do so.

Twyford railway station
A down local train from London Paddington to Reading and, probably, Oxford pulls into platform 3. This is formed of a 3-car class 165 diesel unit now operated by First Great Western, and formerly Thames Trains. These two platforms are the slow lines, the fast lines being to the right. The width between the tracks indicates how much space Brunel's original 7 foot gauge needed, compared with today's 4 foot 8 1/2 inches.
