On the path to Stanlake Bridge
A on old, sick tree, a fallen dead tree and ragwort in profusion make up a scene from the footpath to Stanlake Bridge. Why is there so much ragwort this year?

Stanlake Manor
"Stanlake Park has a 17th-century Elizabethan country house at the centre of the estate. It is the manor house of Hinton Pipard. It was built by the Aldworth family, who lived there before becoming Barons Braybrooke and moving to Billingbear House. They fought for Charles I during the English Civil War and, in 1646, Richard Aldworth founded Reading Blue Coat School." source, Wikipedia.
The house is private but part of the park is now a vineyard which is open for tours, and is where this view was taken.
A fuller history is on the vineyard website, plus info about the wines.

Ponies near Stanlake Bridge
They were trying to get some shade from the bright sunshine in their paddock. The footpath goes past that tree. We gave them a wide berth, but they were not interested in us.
