Southport FC on Haig Avenue
Founded in 1881, Southport joined the football league as a founder member Of Division 3 (North) in 1921.
In 1978 the club lost its league status after failing to gain re-election - the last club to do so under this system.
They have remained in non-league football ever since playing the 2019-2020 season in the National League North. Other former league clubs find themselves in similar positions like York City, Darlington and Chester City.
