Pedestrian and cycle path from Brierley Road, Walton Summit
This path is a useful pedestrian shortcut between the large suburban village of Bamber Bridge and businesses on Walton Summit Industrial Estate. It is also notable for being a very poor quality cycle route. Here at the start, though, it is perfectly adequate for both types of user. Next photo: Image

Cyclists dismount (again)
This path is a useful pedestrian shortcut between businesses on Walton Summit Industrial Estate and the large suburban village of Bamber Bridge. It is also notable for being a very poor quality cycle route. After treating themselves to almost a whole 100m of unhindered riding down the narrow path, cyclists are again instructed to dismount for the remainder of its length. A cycle route?
This path is a useful pedestrian shortcut between businesses on Walton Summit Industrial Estate and the large suburban village of Bamber Bridge. It is also notable for being a very poor quality cycle route. By this point on the route I think all pretence of providing a cycle route had been abandoned. Not safe to ride and too narrow to even push a bike alongside. Too narrow even for the painted man symbol. To top it all off there's an unsigned, blind, right-angled turn just ahead. Cyclists remount
This path is a useful pedestrian shortcut between businesses on Walton Summit Industrial Estate and the large suburban village of Bamber Bridge. It is also notable for being a very poor quality cycle route. After walking their bikes under the bridge cyclists are encouraged to start riding again down the narrow path. A muddy path bypassing a stile near the M6 bridge
A public footpath goes under the bridge carrying the M6 over the railway line. The stile in the foreground is now superfluous. This part of the path is often muddy.

Cyclists dismount
This path is a useful pedestrian shortcut between businesses on Walton Summit Industrial Estate and the large suburban village of Bamber Bridge. It is also notable for being a very poor quality cycle route. Here, after a full 200m of riding, cyclists are instructed to dismount to go round the blind bend and under the bridge. The bridge carries the M6 motorway over the Blackburn to Preston railway line. Next photo: Image Previous photo: Image
