Arrowsmith House, Gregson Lane
This site is reputed to be the site of the last mass celebrated by St. Edmund Arrowsmith, a local Jesuit who was overtaken on Brindle Moss and executed at Lancaster in 1628. Many thanks to Alan Sillitoe and Phil and Juliette Platt, previous visitors whose photographs of this house alerted me to its existence.

It is said that Saint Edmund nearly escaped his pursuers, but his horse refused to jump a ditch allowing his captors the time to catch him up.
