St Mary Magdalen's Roman Catholic Church, Higher Penwortham
The new church was built in 1987-8. It is of red brick, with some half-timbering and a slate roof. It has a monumental east tower with plain angle pilasters, a lozenge-shaped east window and a short swept slated spire. It is gabled with a barge-board with zigzag detail reflecting the architectural detailing of the original church (now the church hall), to which it is attached. The new church was opened and consecrated by Archbishop Worlock on 9 July 1987, when the original church became the parish hall. http://www.ssmmt.org.uk/ Parish website
