St Agnes, Freshwater Bay: memorial (iii)
Bown was educated at St John's College, Cambridge and ordained in 1900. After a curacy at St Barnabas, Sutton in South London he was Assistant Chaplain at Guys Hospital then curate here at Freshwater from 1906 to 1912. He held incumbencies in Southampton, Trotton and Great Haseley (Crockford's Clerical Directory, 1948 p136) before retiring to Totland Bay in 1945 (Deaths.The Times (London, England), Tuesday, Jun 30, 1959; pg. 1; Issue 54500)

St. Agnes church
One of only 18 thatched churches in Britain, and the only one on the Isle of Wight. This was built in 1908 on land provided by Hallam Tennyson, son of Alfred, Lord Tennyson.
