Bown was educated at St John's College, Cambridge and ordained in 1900. After a curacy at St Barnabas, Sutton in South London he was Assistant Chaplain at Guys Hospital then curate here at Freshwater from 1906 to 1912. He held incumbencies in Southampton, Trotton and Great Haseley (Crockford's Clerical Directory, 1948 p136) before retiring to Totland Bay in 1945 (Deaths.The Times (London, England), Tuesday, Jun 30, 1959; pg. 1; Issue 54500)
