Freshwater: postbox № PO40 69, Gate Lane
An Elizabeth II-reign postbox stands outside the Image Alongside it is a bench whose inscription reads: "In memory of Ernie and Amy Thornton and their family, who ran Freshwater Bay Post Office from 1967 to 2013.

Freshwater: former Freshwater Bay Post Office
A post office was first established at this end of Freshwater on 1 April 1892 when it was named Freshwater Gate, but it was renamed Freshwater Bay on 1 June of the same year. It closed finally on 7 July 2013 - see Image for a close-up of the postbox and the bench alongside, which is placed in honour of the family who ran the post office for its last 47 years.

St Agnes, Freshwater Bay: memorial (iii)
Bown was educated at St John's College, Cambridge and ordained in 1900. After a curacy at St Barnabas, Sutton in South London he was Assistant Chaplain at Guys Hospital then curate here at Freshwater from 1906 to 1912. He held incumbencies in Southampton, Trotton and Great Haseley (Crockford's Clerical Directory, 1948 p136) before retiring to Totland Bay in 1945 (Deaths.The Times (London, England), Tuesday, Jun 30, 1959; pg. 1; Issue 54500)
